Most companies promising optimisation as part of the design package will optimise the site initially followed by weekly or monthly stats via a written report which can be tweaked and amended to target your audience perfectly.
It is very easy for this to stop at the design stage, ensure that the reports keep coming in and the conversations continue. Marketing is key to any business and therefore should be at the forefront of your thoughts. Otherwise you could be paying a lot of money for someone to do nothing.
Just to note, when this is mentioned it means PageRank for Google. if you have the Google toolbar it will show you your PageRank which is how important your site is deemed for it's ranking by the mystics at Google using their secret formula.
So if someone asks you to link to their PR3 site it means they have a PageRAnk if 3 out of 10 which is probably worth the link if it is relevent.
When did you last update your flash player? Flash MX can save up to flash player 7. If your site contains flash then you could be alienating a part of your audience. This does not mean flash is a bad thing, it's not. If the flash on your site is purely for aesthetic purposes then there is not much to worry about, however and this however is big. If any part of your navigation has been built in flash, make sure you discuss with the designers the requirement for access and a link to give the prospective customer the ability to download the latest player which is free.
Flash as a creative tool is great! But be careful where designers want to place it on your site. As part of the navigation it may look nice but this is almost useless as optimisation and for new businesses all help with search rankings is good help. Maybe think about a flash-less beginning to certain areas of your site until your rakings will allow it. |
